Watering Program
The best thing that you can do for your foundation is implement a consistent watering program. Sprinkler systems are not adequate. We recommend installing a drip system or watering with soaker hoses. The hoses should be placed approximately 12 inches out from the foundation around the entire perimeter except in areas blocked by a driveway, sidewalk or patio. Watering should be done year round.
- In wetter cooler months: water twice a week for a minimum of 1-2 hours (if it hasn’t rained that week).
- As we move into drier months: water 3 times a week for a minimum of 2-3 hours.
- During drought season as the soil begins to pull away from your foundation and cracks in the soil become evident: water every other day for a minimum of 3-4 hours.
Each property is different and these are only general guidelines. We always recommend closely monitoring your watering program. The soil pulling away from your foundation is a definite sign that your foundation has become too dry and you need to increase your watering immediately.
